Described by Pevsner as "an enchanted place", the Grade II* listed 16th century manor sits on an island in the chain of lakes created for Thomas Hudson, founder of Country Life magazine, by Sir Edwin Lutyens, who also added a music room, entrance gates, an oak bridge and cottages. The Practice refurbished the buildings and rejuvenated their magical landscape setting. English oak was used for joinery work to the main stair, gallery, new kitchen fittings and for two new full height windows overlooking the lake in the important Lutyens' music room.
