New kitchen block at Leeds Castle, Kent
© McNeil
For Leeds Castle the Practice designed a new kitchen serving the Estates Yard restaurant. The building blends with adjoining barns and stables in the Kent vernacular style and is fitted with the latest catering equipment.
A traditionally detailed louvred vent at the peak of the pyramidal shaped tiled roof allows unobtrusive extraction of cooking fumes, while the underside of the roof is boarded to give an airy and attractive feel to the interior.
Further work at the Castle includes; advice on stonework and leadwork repairs; design of a new fire escape stair; conversion of the Gatehouse into a Museum displaying historic dog collars.
Awards: Civic Trust Award Commendation
Client: The Leeds Castle Foundation
