Today the house, owned by the Lytton family since 1490, displays a splendid medley of architectural styles: Tudor juxtaposed with high Victorian gothic; John Crace designs beside those of Lutyens. During our continuing involvement at the house the Practice has produced four reports on condition and subsequently undertaken five repair contracts.
Repairs first targeted stucco, roof and gutters; while dry rot treatment required the careful removal and re-instatement of 19th century decorative work by Crace.
Work to the Tower and North Wing, being half of the Tudor core of the house, required the insertion of steel beams, strengthening of floors and rebuilding unstable brickwork. Externally, lime stucco was renewed and heraldic and symbolic beasts remodelled and recast.
