Charles Darwin lived here with his family for 40 years and his meticulous records of expenditure on alterations and additions to the house are now available as archive material.
The Practice was appointed as team leader for the internal and external repairs to the house in its refurbishment and conversion for use as a Museum and Exhibition Centre.
Windows and doors were renewed, floor and roof structures strengthened, timber-framed glasshouses repaired, services integrated, drainage and security improved and the building redecorated throughout. Our designs extended to a new tea room and terrace, public lavatories and a car park.
