Donald Insall Associates was appointed to prepare proposals for the repair and conversion of this Grade II building in Holywell. Work began by conducting a detailed survey of the existing building in order to understand how its construction had evolved from 1702. This was important to ensure that as much as possible of the historic fabric was retained.
The building underwent extensive remodelling during the Georgian period; and surviving features include doors, sash windows, architraves and panelling to the window reveals. All these features have been retained, carefully restored and repaired to reinstate the former prominence of Exchange House on the High Street. By creating a new shop front and retail space to the ground floor with four flats above, this key building has been brought back to life, with its long term future secured.
