A fireplace decorated by William Morris and Ford Madox Brown was introduced to the mid 15th century Hall in 1861. Bodley devised the polychromatic decorative scheme in 1875, replacing the C18th floor with encaustic tiles in a Purbeck stone grid. Stone and tiles had become extremely worn and their coloured designs lost before we renewed the whole floor with specially made patterned encaustic tiles, replicating the original decorative appearance of the floor. Finally underfloor heating was installed to improve comfort conditions in the Hall.

The painted decorations of the walls and ceiling were conserved in a second phase of work to the Hall. Renewal of the floor and conservation of the decorative scheme has restored the balance of Bodley's design.
