Reconstructed north gable of the Great Hall

Ince Manor Grange, Cheshire

This project also includes some sub-projects: New life has been found for the stone structures of the Great Hall and Barn at Ince Manor, a former abbey grange dating from the 13th century. The Hall had fallen into agricultural use after a fire in 1895, and was in a ruinous state.

Donald Insall Associates undertook a Feasibility Study supported by the Architectural Heritage Fund to determine how the Scheduled Monument and Grade I listed buildings could be repaired, partially rebuilt, re-roofed, and made weathertight in a manner acceptable to English Heritage. This has now been done and the repaired buildings have been brought into full use by their private owner.

The building project was funded by a major grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, with additional funding from Ellesmere Port and Neston Borough Council, Cheshire County Council, English Heritage and the Architectural Heritage Fund.
