Created as one of a suite of three enfilade drawing rooms for George IV by Morel and Seddon as part of Wyatville's re-modelling in the 1820s, the room marked the most southerly extent of the fire of 1992. At the north end of the room part of the ceiling was removed to create a fire barrier.
Restoration work required the repair of damage by both water and fire and included conservation and replication of gilt composition wall frames, repair of the plasterwork and floor and repair of a series of door trophies originally created for Carlton House. The room was re-decorated in its original warm stone colour and dressed with new silk wall linings and curtains.
Awards: Europa Nostra Medal; RIBA Regional Award; Civic Trust Award; RICS Commendation; Carpenter's Award; The Plaisterers' Trophy and Regional Award; Guild of Architectural Ironmongers' Heritage Award
Client: The Royal Household
