Appointed to prepare detailed proposals for re-lighting the City Walls and Chester's unique Rows, the Practice had previously developed the Chester Urban Lighting Strategy for enhancement of the night time City, with our co-consultants, 'lightmatters'.
Many of the light fittings were normal commercial items but it was agreed that the Rows should have unique, modern Cestrian luminaires specially designed for them. Vandal resistant, these were developed and manufactured by Designplan. On site, working closely with the electrical contractor, we located the necessary wiring and junction boxes in unobtrusive positions. The lighting scheme has been successful in greatly enhancing these unique and characteristic features of historic Chester.
