Following our previous re-paving of the Square, including planting of new trees and restoration of Lutyens' fountains, the Practice collaborated with Lighting Design Partnership on a sponsored scheme for lighting
Nelson's Column was lit from light sources contained within four new cast aluminium bollards discretely added to the crowd barrier we had previously designed around the column. These and the lamp standards added elsewhere were designed to reflect existing 19th century models, an important factor in the success of negotiations with the Royal Fine Art Commission, English Heritage and Westminster City council.
