In the heart of Bristol's City Centre Conservation Area, the Grade 1 listed Theatre Royal straddles the Scheduled Ancient Monument site of the old City Walls.
The auditorium, dating from 1766, the oldest in the country by nearly 50 years from its nearest equivalent, has seen virtually continuous use as a playhouse. Peter Moro radically incorporated the auditorium into a much larger complex in the 1970s, including the adjacent Coopers' Hall as its foyer and adding an experimental studio space with contemporary production facilities.
The Practice prepared a Conservation Plan as part of a Heritage Lottery Fund Application to refurbish and enhance the entire complex.
