This project also includes some sub-projects:
Founded in 1180 to house pilgrims visiting the shrine of St Thomas à Becket, the main Hospital building is of flint and brick, with part spanning the River Stour. The adjacent almshouse dates from the post-Reformation period. Today the Hospital is a community within the Anglican Church and home to twelve in-dwellers; it is open daily to the public. Regular work by the Practice at the Hospital has ranged from repairs and alterations, to sensitive new interventions to the historic fabric and interiors, to longer term surveys and day-to-day maintenance and specialist conservation works. More recently we renewed tiled and lead roofs and thoroughly overhauled the rainwater system.
