Main elevation of the Falcon Inn, Chester after restoration

The Falcon Inn, Chester

Location Bridgegate, Chester BROWSE
Office Chester BROWSE
Sectors Public & Institutional, Repair & Refurbishment
Work to this Grade I listed building was carried out as part of our continuing involvement in the regeneration of the Bridgegate Conservation Area, then in a desperately neglected condition. Funding was obtained from a number of sources, and the project backed by the City of Chester.

Careful historical analysis of the 17th century timber structure and its 13th century sandstone cellars led to a comprehensive programme of repair. Now in full use as a busy Public House, replanned accommodation provides a staff flat and public meeting room on its upper levels.

Awards: Bridgegate Action Area Conservation Programme: European Award for the Preservation of Historic Monuments; Europa Nostra Medal of Honour for UK; RICS Award for Planning Achievement Silver Jubilee Cup Highly Commended

Client: Chester City Council
