Occupying a prominent position on Bridgegate, Gamul House is typically of many levels and dates. Repair and renewal work was carried out by the Practice as part of the City's pioneering Urban Regeneration Programme.
Restoration revealed original wattle-and-daub partitioning and early mullioned windows. Repairs include renewal of roof timbers, slates and leadwork and rebuilding defective brickwork.
In the main Hall, once an open yard, we removed modern insertions, restoring its handsome proportions and usefulness. The restored building is now in commercial use.
Awards: European Architectural Heritage Year Award;
RICS Conservation Award Commendation
Client: City of Chester Corporation
