Copper Kingdom is the RIBA/RSAW Welsh Building of the Year
May 16, 2014
Our innovative museum building, the Copper Kingdom, built partly within a listed copper bin on Amlwch Port’s quayside, proved to be a hit with the jury in the RIBA/RSAW Welsh Architecture Awards 2014. We won both a Wales Architecture Award and the Welsh Building of the Year Award. The judges said: “The Copper Kingdom Visitor Centre had a very difficult brief – encapsulate the story of Copper; make it captivating and real; do it in a small footprint…AND on a limited budget. Donald Insall Associates…have more than fulfilled this brief…with both style and deceptive simplicity”.
The project had already won the National Eisteddfod of Wales Plaque of Merit and was shortlisted in three categories in the 2014 RICS Awards.
