February 8, 2016
Donald Insall Associates has been commissioned to support the Uttoxeter Heritage Trust in delivering this exciting project at the Redfern’s Cottage, Museum of Uttoxeter Life to provide a visitor attraction with new and upgraded facilities together with an engaging presentation of the collection to be undertaken by Image Makers. The project has been identified as high priority for support and subsequently received £643,800 from HLF in order to revitalise the physical and intellectual access to the Museum, accommodating 21st century needs. Works will be carried out to the Grade II listed Redfern’s Cottage at Carter Street, conserving key features in the building’s historic fabric. The project also includes installing energy efficient heating, security and fire alarms, disabled toilets and baby changing units, a new service kitchen and community life area within a new glass and oak extension.
Reyahn King, head of Heritage Lottery Fund West Midlands, said: “Future visitors to the museum will be able to gain a deeper understanding of Uttoxeter’s rich and varied history thanks to the improved facilities and presentation of the collection. The work on the building itself will replace earlier, inappropriate repairs with sensitive restoration. The revitalised Redfern’s Cottage should also help to strengthen the town’s tourism economy.”
