Korean War memorial maquette unveiled with special visit
January 29, 2014
Donald Insall Associates’ latest memorial project has reached a major milestone with a special visit from the Duke of Cambridge and the President of the Republic of Korea, Park Geun-hye. President Park unveiled a scale model (or maquette) of the memorial, which will feature a bronze statue of a British soldier. It has been designed by the sculptor Philip Jackson, with whom we have collaborated on a number of memorials and monuments in London including the Queen Mother Memorial, the In-Pensioner at the Royal Hospital Chelsea; and a monument to Raoul Wallenberg.
The monument, due to be erected in Victoria Embankment Gardens later this year, will be dedicated to the British servicemen and women who served in the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. Around 82,000 British service personnel were deployed during the war, and more than 1,000 died.
