‘New Dawn’ Unveiled at Palace of Westminster
June 8, 2016

New Dawn, a permanent artwork commemorating women’s suffrage in Parliament, was unveiled yesterday evening at an event attended by Patrick Duerden and Edward Lewis from Donald Insall Associates. Located in St Stephen’s Porch at the south end of Westminster Hall, the artwork has been designed by Mary Branson, Parliamentary Artist in Residence to Women’s Suffrage.

Donald Insall Associates were responsible for cleaning and repairing the delicate masonry of St Stephen’s Porch, expanding upon our ongoing Westminster Hall conservation project. We have also restored the hand-embossed canvas wall covering. The canvas, which now forms the background of New Dawn, was analysed and has been carefully repainted in ‘suffragette green’.
