Restoration of St Mark’s underway
July 22, 2016
The Grade I listed St Mark’s, in North Mayfair, London, is an impressive 19th century Greek revival-style building that has been deconsecrated by the Church of England in 1974. Used as an events space since 2009, it was acquired in 2014 by Grosvenor Estates in order to restore and adapt the church to new uses, restoring the building’s heritage features and installing a glass staircase to provide access to the first floor gallery. Donald Insall Associates’ architectural team is working in partnership with Grangewood to realise this project, anticipating a public opening in late 2017.
Works have begun this summer with some interesting events, including a site specific installation by Liz West as well as a ‘living wall’ on the scaffolding outside the building.
