Wimpole Gothic Tower Shortlisted for the Civic Trust AABC Conservation Award
November 11, 2015

Donald Insall Associates is pleased to announce that our project to conserve the 18th century Wimpole Gothic Tower on the National Trust Wimpole Estate, Cambridgeshire is a regional finalist for the Civic Trust AABC Conservation Award.

The project started with the preparation of a conservation management plan.  The development of conservation approaches followed to establish the most appropriate way to repair the structure which was built as a ruin.  The three towers and stone curtain walls have been conserved; following archive analysis missing elements have been reinstated:-  crenellations, doors, windows and rear external stair.  The overgrown landscape has been returned to its 18th century appearance within the north park designed by Brown and Repton.  The project was successful in involving a large number of volunteers including public access to part of the scaffold during the works, which promoted an understanding of the building in the landscape and the conservation works in progress.
