All Saints' Church - Staplehurst, Kent
Founded in the 12th Century the Church was enlarged during the 13th to 15th Centuries. The Practice’s brief was to provide additional office space within the tower and a draught lobby for the main entrance doors to the west.
At first floor level the new office now sits within the area once occupied by an earlier gallery, the enclosure being completed by a frameless glass screen within the tower arch.
The draught lobby is a simple glass box with doors on all sides etched with scrolls and emblems. The floor ramps up to it and the roof is lit for safety. The lobby is a welcoming entrance, provides a visible exit and is also successful in reducing draughts and traffic noise.
