The Great Gatehouse

Battle Abbey - East Sussex
Over two decades the Practice has directed major repairs and alterations at this Abbey, founded by William the Conqueror. Our work at the Gatehouse now provides an exhibition space, with new floor, roof, joinery, and stair, while a new Visitors’ Centre has been located in the repaired Courthouse, with a shop and Education Room.
Repairs to both include stone consolidation and re-roofing in tile and lead; walls and outbuildings, including Gothic Dairy and Ice House have also been repaired. Feasibility studies for improved facilities and access have been undertaken by the Practice.
