Chatterley Whitfield Colliery, Staffordshire
This is one of the very few coalmines surviving with its pithead buildings showing a continuous development from the end of the 19th century until the mine was closed in 1976.
Most of the structures have now been listed as historic buildings and the Practice has produced a Conservation Plan to guide their preservation.
The aim of Chatterley Whitfield Regeneration Project is to ensure the long-term protection of this Scheduled Monument as a piece of social history; not just as a museum, but with some buildings providing a suitable environment for commercial use.
