The Citadel - Weston-under-Redcastle
Originally a dower house, this Grade II* listed building was designed by Thomas Harrison of Chester around 1825 and formed part of the Hawkstone Park estate.
Built from the soft local ‘Myddle’ sandstone, high level masonry had become severely eroded when the Practice was commissioned to undertake extensive remedial work.
Decay in the north turret, which disguised a chimney, required the complete dismantling and re-building of the stack, though elsewhere less invasive techniques were used. Where possible the existing stone blocks were salvaged for re-use in their original locations.
