Camden Town Hall Annexe Building

Donald Insall Associates were commissioned by Crosstree Real Estate Management Limited to assist in the preparation of proposals for the redevelopment of Camden Town Hall Annex building into a 270-room hotel. The scheme sought to unlock the qualities of the building’s Brutalist architecture, including the exposed structural style and its sculptural form, and included a high quality contemporary 3 storey roof extension. The annexe building is unlisted however it is located within the Kings Cross Conservation Area and adjacent to the Bloomsbury Conservation Area; is surrounded by many listed buildings, some, such as St Pancras and Kings Cross Stations, listed at the highest grade; and is interconnected with the Grade II listed Camden Town Hall.
Donald Insall Associates provided historic building advice and a Historic Building Report in support of the proposals which gave due consideration to the building’s highly sensitive location - concluding that the proposals would fulfil the potential of the building as a local landmark, becoming a positive contributor to the character of the area and a worthy neighbour to the outstanding listed buildings which surround it.
