“Cathedral at Height”, Chester
Donald Insall Associates was asked to take on the design and implementation of the alterations required to enable public access up to the Cathedral’s triforium and onto the Tower Roof. This required careful consideration of the design details for interventions into the interior and exterior fabric of this important city centre Grade I listed place of worship.
New balustrades, viewing platforms, lighting, staircases and handrails have been installed to allow safe visitor access to a high level tour of the cathedral. Previously unseen areas have been opened up and the new interventions have been designed to integrate with, and complement, the ancient fabric of the building. Work has also been carried out in conjunction with an interpretation consultant to provide an enhanced visitor experience with graphics and video.
