Emmanuel Church, West Hampstead
Insall has repaired the uneven nave floor of this Grade II Listed church, caused by London clay heave below, and has replaced a 1960’s meeting room with four new community rooms, complete with a new kitchen and accessible WC within the existing underused aisles. The existing floor slab throughout the nave, aisles and narthex was removed, and has been replaced with a new slab installed on piles over a void for future clay movement, with new underfloor heating and flooring installed throughout. We applied for DAC Faculty and Victorian Society approval for the works, which were designed for use by the parish and the wider community in mind, including a new internal ramp to improve access. The usability of the church has been greatly improved, and the works have allowed the church to welcome all previous user groups and many more. Insall are the Inspecting Architects for the Church, and have provided Quinquennial reports and smaller repair projects for the building since 2007.
