Former London Board School, 10 Bowling Green Lane, Islington

In 2011 Donald Insall Associates was commissioned by Zaha Hadid Architects to produce a historic building report on 10 Bowling Green Lane, a former London Board School listed at Grade II.
In 1870 the Elementary Education Act was passed which demanded that all children between the ages of five and twelve years old be given basic, publicly provided education. This prompted the wide scale construction of London Schools through the newly established London School Board. 10 Bowling Green Lane was constructed as a direct result of the act, and was opened in 1875. The building was listed in 1991 as part of in-depth survey of London Board Schools carried out by English Heritage.
