Hampton Court Palace: Wolsey Chimney

The Wolsey Chimney has 16th century origins, heavily remodeled, probably in the early 19th century, when a third flue was added. Wind action over many
decades had caused structural movement and the dislocation of the capping to the chimney shafts. Repairs involved dismantling the tops of the shafts and rebuilding,
incorporating reinforcement to stiffen the capping. Severe sulphation deposits were removed using small tools and decayed cut and rubbed bricks were replaced with new rubbed bricks. The chimney was also re-pointed.
