Hillersdon Mansion, Bedfordshire

Hillersdon Mansion comprises the remains of an early 17th century house built partly from materials of an earlier abbey on the site. These remains are attached to the parish church, Elstow Abbey. The practice produced a Conservation and Management Plan and this study lead to a repair programme to conserve the ruins carried out in consultation with English Heritage. The work included stone repairs, stabilising of wall tops and clearing invasive vegetation, gentle re-grouting to conserve coursed render and the delicate plasterwork. The remains of the two storey porch, built in local soft clunch stone were protected by the application of lime shelter coats.
