Hodnet Hall Dovecote, Shropshire
This rare 17th century dovecote, a Scheduled Monument and Grade II* listed building, has been carefully and sensitively conserved under the Practice’s direction.
Donald Insall Associates was lead consultant and co-ordinated a team comprising structural engineer, archaeologist, ecologist, and timber diagnostic specialist. The works involved re-roofing in hand-made clay plain tiles, a new glover in oak, strengthening of existing decayed oak purlins; stitching of substantial cracks in the brickwork; replacement of a heavily weathered stone cornice with new to match, reinstatement of the rendered decorative recesses, re-pointing to match existing using hot lime mortar, repairs to a 17th century door and provision of a new gate to a later 19th century opening.
The project was funded by a Natural England grant.
