Donald Insall Associates has completed the design for transforming the Grade I listed Sir William Chambers’ Observatory at Kew from a previously poorly adapted office to a four bedroom house. Works include restoration of the Georgian glazed cabinets, rotating copula, and the double height reception rooms. Significant upgrading works to services are necessary to meet both contemporary comfort expectations and building regulation requirements. We have also designed a below ground extension to accommodate more guest suites and car parking all set within the picturesque landscape. Working with the landscape architect Kim Wilkie, we have also designed features to articulate the surrounding landscape. We have recently achieved Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent for the refurbishment so works can start in 2015.
