Raby Castle

Darlington

Raby Castle, the seat of Lord Barnard, has a long and illustrious history of continuous occupation dating from the 13th century. Following our initial commission for a comprehensive survey and report on the fabric, Donald Insall Associates has been engaged in a multiphase programme of repair and improvements to the castle and estate. Work includes upgrading living accommodation, provision of modern office facilities, complete renovation of the heating and environmental control systems, and extensive stone and lead repairs.

In the Octagon Drawing Room, the practice provided historical research and advice on the reinstatement of fittings and furniture, restoring the room to its original appearance in the style of a French 17th century salon.
