The Winter Gardens

The Grade II* Winter Gardens were dilapidated when Donald Insall Associates won a framework contract to rejuvenate this key complex. The fast-track first phase of works was successfully completed on time and within budget. We repaired and revitalised the Floral Hall to allow visitors to enjoy its splendour. Investigations in a former amusement arcade revealed fine Art Deco interiors by the French film set designer Andrew Mazzei. These were hidden behind later alterations and have been carefully conserved and updated in order to form a backdrop to the new Mazzei cafe. We opened the rotunda above the entrance lobby and enhanced its elegance with a sympathetic decorative scheme. The bistro was completely remodelled as the Empress Grill Rooms.
