Ian joined Donald Insall Associates in 2017, with experience spanning the residential, education, secular and heritage sectors. Ian has worked on the refurbishment and conservation of historic buildings that require contemporary design and technical installations, as well as on the repair and revitalisation of historic walled gardens and associated greenhouses and bothies.
He is particularly interested in the use of traditional materials within historic structures and the evolution and development of a building from the date of its original construction to the present day. Prior to joining Insall, Ian completed development plans for the National Trust and private clients, and wrote quinquennial reports. In addition to his architectural qualifications, Ian has qualifications in archaeology — he considers historic buildings to be standing archaeology.
