Birmingham Botanical Gardens

Birmingham

We were appointed to carry out a heritage and condition appraisal at Birmingham Botanical Gardens, which opened in 1882, to inform and steer the early stages of their development review and options analysis; leading towards a Heritage Lottery Fund application for this very exciting project. The ambition of the botanical garden’s trust is to turn the Gardens into a major regional and nationally known and visited venue.

The gardens opened during the reign of King William IV and are Grade II*  listed, with all the historic glasshouses and some of the associated buildings are listed Grade II. It is now one of only two botanical gardens in the UK which are independently funded; all others receive funds from local or national government or universities.
