Jesus College, Chapel

Cambridge

Donald Insall Associates has worked at Jesus College, Cambridge for a number of years, including works to the historic Chapel which was originally formed in the 12th century. Works to the chapel included a major re-lighting scheme, which also consisted of removing modern alkyd resin paint from the walls and recoating them in traditional milk-based paint. The decorative ceilings, designed and executed by Morris working under Bodley, are shown in far better light since the scheme.

Insall has also assisted in the design and installation of a new organ by Männedof’s Orgelbau Kuhn to replace an inadequate organ by Mander built in 1971. The new organ can now be seen alongside the earlier Sutton organ of 1846, housed in a case designed by Pugin.
