Saxtead Green Post Mill

Saxtead Green Post Mill, Suffolk, is one of the best surviving examples of a post mill in East Anglia. Insall was appointed by English Heritage to assess the condition and schedule a programme of repairs, overseeing works on site alongside Suffolk Millwrights and specialist mill designer Luke Bonwick. Works completed in 2020, and included a new stair formed of solid Scottish Douglas Fir strings and English Oak treads. Discussions with Luke Bonwick of the Bonwick Heritage Consultancy, as well as Tim Whiting of Suffolk Millwrights, brought the project to fruition, discussing and agreeing designs with them and English Heritage throughout the process. Insall was heavily involved in the selection and specification of appropriate materials and methods of repair to all elements of the project.
