St Eilian’s Church

Llaneilian

A beautiful Grade I listed medieval church located in the village of Llaneilian in Anglesey, St Eilian’s retained many historically significant features, including a timber rood screen with one surviving painting and many wood carving figures. The church required emergency reroofing because large parts of its lead roof had been stripped away by thieves. Donald Insall Associates was appointed to develop the repair strategy and prepare the schedule of works for tender and faculty submission, overseeing the works on site. New lead was installed to the original details, and extensive research was carried out in order to install additional safety precautions so as to prevent further theft in the future. These included LedLok fixings not attached directly to medieval timber, smart water marking, anti-climb paint to all rainwater goods, and a comprehensive roof alarm system.
