Victorian colour scheme granted go-ahead for National History Museum railings

Donald Insall Associates was commissioned to undertake the repair works to the Grade I listed railings, gates and piers, as part of the on-going maintenance programme at the Museum. Further to our advice, a detailed paint analysis was undertaken, which results revealed that the railings were originally an iron oxide red with gilding, instead of the current black colour scheme.

The restoration of the colour scheme garnered strong support from the Victorian Society, and permission was granted by the council this week to go ahead with this scheme.
