Chester Station Link and Carriage Shed
Donald Insall Associates scheduled repairs and alterations to a complex of under-used buildings to the east forecourt of Chester Station, including a spectacular patent glazed roof to the east Carriage Shed. The buildings, opened up and now part of the public domain, give improved access to the station and connect the area to the first in a planned series of modern office buildings. The Grade II* listed buildings were in a poor state of repair with inappropriate modern alterations which have been undone where possible, revealing hidden historic finishes such as Victorian glazed bricks and original signage, now re-gilded. Insall worked as heritage consultants for MPH Construction throughout the construction phase of this design and build project.
