Karen joined Donald Insall Associates in 2000, with earlier architectural experience in residential and arts projects, particularly in theatres and galleries wherein contemporary design and technical solutions have been integrated into historic buildings. She is particularly interested in the selection and use of local materials, working on a number of stone masonry projects, including the conservation of ruins. Recent project, consultancy and survey work has included historic buildings reports and management plans for a range of clients, including local authorities, the National Trust, and English Heritage.

Karen enjoys working closely with clients so as to develop a brief and working with specialist project teams. She is an accredited specialist conservation architect and is the Churchwarden of her local Grade I listed 13th century parish church and involved in conservation projects, liaising with Historic England, the DAC, and producing grant applications for funding.
