A mixed-use redevelopment
Donald Insall Associates was commissioned to redevelop the old Bury St Edmunds Post Office site, which stands in the Town Centre Conservation Area. Having assessed the site’s significance through archival and secondary research as well as site inspections, we proposed a mixed-use redevelopment, delivering high-quality commercial, retail and much-needed residential spaces that is sympathetic to the building’s historic setting. The scheme includes a new building extruded from the front block of the Post Office, creating a bold and cohesive urban block by pushing back the ground floor of the new building to widen the thoroughfare, linking two divergent shopping areas — the historic high street and the modern Arc shopping centre.
